Important News On PayPal and RetroPrint (November 16, 2004)

We regret that we at RetroPrint are no longer able to offer our customers the convenience of using PayPal to pay for their purchases of Playboy Magazines dated 1980 and newer.

This is not due to abuse by our customers or ourselves but instead by an arbitrary decision by PayPal. According to PayPal (and its' parent company Ebay), any issue of Playboy published after 1979 is for "mature audiences" to be classified with hardcore pornography and it is not acceptable to use their service to pay for such items. Curiously, pre-1980 Playboys are fine under their guidelines (we suppose this is due to the infamous Great Breast Transformation Act of 1980) but we're not allowed to offer Paypal as a payment option on post-1979 issues.

With this in mind Paypal had shut down our account despite years of successful transactions and no negative customer feedback, returns or chargebacks.

We're disappointed to see a service we stood behind from the beginning develop into a puritanical censor of what a consumer may purchase. As the leading provider of online transactions, it is PayPal's responsibility to display the judgement and professionalism expected of such a position. Perhaps in the future we'll see a genuine leader emerge in this critical financial arena that chooses not to unfairly judge the purchases made by their users but for now consider yourselves informed by the experts at PayPal/Ebay that your purchases and your taste in products is unacceptable. Shame on you!

We cannot in good faith continue to support the corrupt and unfair policies of PayPal. In this way PayPal suffers the loss of more than just the profits they were taking from every RetroPrint purchase made using their service but also those from a number of other active "acceptable" accounts they've been profiting from for years. Hope it was worth it, PayPal/Ebay!

Now here's what we're going to do about it.

We're going to give PayPal's former cut of each transaction back to you, plus a little. If you make any purchase from RetroPrint using one of our non-PayPal payment sources, we'll give you 5% off! Just mention PayPal in the Notes section of your order and we'll notify you of your revised total promptly via email. It's our way of saying thanks for the continued support of our loyal customers and goodbye to the judgemental attitudes of PayPal. Be free to buy what YOU want for whatever reason you want...as you should be.

You're always welcome at RetroPrint.
